Margaret Thatcher

Hi, I haven't posted anything in ages, but I thought I should make a comment about Margaret Thatcher's death.
Many people have suggested that I would be happy that she has died, this is simply not the case.
I did not agree with Maggie's policies, and I had no great love for the woman, but those of you who actually read my blog would be well aware that I am against capital punishment, and so if I do not wish for murderers to be put to death then I certainly would not wish physical harm on her, and frankly I am sickened by the reaction of some people who share my political ideology.
Inversely I would argue that some Conservatives are also celebrating Thatcher's death as a rallying call to the right, this is also wrong.
Like her or hate her, Thatcher was a significant character in recent world history, this cannot be denied. Thatcher was a strong willed person who believed in herself and pursued her cause.  I would view this as admirable if I agreed with her, but I don't.   While her background was comparatively humble and being the first female prime minister in Britain, she was ironically neither a champion for the poor or women.
I could theoretically go on for hours, except I don't have time at this moment, but I thought I should say something.

Generic Holiday Greeting and Rant

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy all those seasonal holidays that I have no idea how to spell!

I know I haven't written much recently, but I am alive and such, just very busy and tired so not been really been inspired to write.

I suppose I really should be with the silly politics happening in this country at the moment, but largely I am just feeling despair. People think that rich people who support other rich people know how to run the economy. NO! Rich people who help other rich people know how to screw over poor people to make money for themselves, they certainly aren't going to help you unless you are BFFs. When times are bad economically people vote Tory and the first thing they do is raise unemployment which means fewer people are spending which HURTS the economy. All the Tories understand is privilege and greed.

Sorry for the rant... guess I did need to get that out, don't have time to say more or I could go on for ages.... Oh well Happy all those holidays.

Ben Kingsley "mugged" for new Robin Hood tax

Another Star supporting the Robin Hood Tax

Bill Nighy - Robin Hood Tax Video

Bill Nighy playing a banker in an ad supporting the concept of a Robin Hood tax on banks…. take a look it’s quite well done… and Bill Nighy is just a pleasure to watch.

Save Britain from unnecessary cuts, demand the government implement the Robin Hood Tax!

Andrew Lansley Rap

It speaks volumes about how bad things are getting in the country when rappers start singing songs about protecting the NHS.

Support the NHS, write to your MP and tell them that the NHS is not for sale!

Merry Christmas

Just a quick note to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year.

I know for many people this time of year can be quite depressing, and the current financial situation does not help with that, nor does the cold and snow and ice that we have been experiencing here (for those of you in England who aren’t used to it), despite that it is the season to spend time with friends and family and enjoy each others company.

In that spirit I hope you do have a wonderful time, and also in that spirit I will not spew any specific political rhetoric today. Smile

Merry Christmas!

False Economy

Why are the public paying the price for greedy bankers and lack of political oversight?  When the economy is rocky the worst thing to do is shrink the economy by cutting the workforce.  The ConDem’d Government has a choice, tell them to make a different one!

Public Services Matter

The Public Sector Matters

The ConDem’s cuts will have huge nock on effect.  People think public sector workers are highly paid with huge pension packages.  Although this may be true for senior management, this is not true for the majority.

The pension for an average Local Government employee is £4000/year and less £2600 for the average female employee.

Don’t let the Conservative F Up the NHS

The Tories want to shake up the NHS in ways no one has asked for.  A survey shows that only 1 in 4 doctors support the proposed changes that would give them control over commissioning. This is a dogmatic drive by the government to create competition within the NHS.  Competition is not good for health services, what you want is a co-operative approach to make sure that patients get the best possible care.
